In 2014-2015, YOUTH POWER! teamed up with the NYS Department of Labor to provide trainings, workshops, videos and web events to address critical education/workforce topics for youth service professionals and youth. While this initiative has come to a close, the resources are still available and YOUTH POWER! continues to incorporate career and workforce development into our advocacy efforts, as well as technical assistance as requested.
What we aimed to accomplish
The main goal of E3 was to develop resources and materials to assist Local Workforce Investment Area (LWIA) staff in addressing their needs. This included serving youth in special populations, building awareness of career development through the CareerZone system, and sharing information on important changes in educational resources.
Additional workshops and web events were provided for youth, adult allies, youth service professionals, and community partners.
Skill Building Workshops: For youth, young adults and youth service professionals to introduce resources that support career exploration, self-advocacy and post-secondary education planning.
Webinars: For adult allies, youth service professionals, and community partners to learn more about topics such as cultural competence, developing community partnerships, and strategies for recruiting youth.
Online Youth Information: YP! teamed up with Youth FX to produce videos made for youth by youth. These videos will provide valuable information on disability disclosure and self-advocacy. These videos can be accessed on our YouTube channel or by clicking here.
Supporting Self-Advocacy Trainings: Regional three hour trainings were provided to educate LWIA Youth Program Staff on methods to support youth engagement, self-advocacy, disability disclosure and other relevant topics. View the training guide here.
